Ongoing Weekly Programs

No registration is required.
Children under 8 must be accompanied by adult.

Mondays– 4:00pmLEGO Maker Mondays Do you like LEGOs? Why not join us to build LEGO creations based on new themes each week and inspired by children’s books!  Designed for children ages 6-12; children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Tuesdays – 10:30-11am – Wee Read – Children ages 0-3, with their caregivers, enjoy a program of songs, poetry, movement and a story.

Wednesdays – 10:30-11am – Preschool Storytime – Children ages 3-5, with their caregivers, enjoy a program of song, movement, poetry, early literacy skills and stories.

Thursdays – 11:30am-12:30pm – Summer Food Program for Kids– The Kenai Community Library is teaming up with the Food Bank of Alaska to offer a FREE lunch for all children 18 and under. All meals must be eaten on site and are designated for children ONLY. This wonderful opportunity begins June 1st and ends August 17th.

Saturdays – 9:00am- Super Mathletes: Mathcounts – Fun, interesting, and challenging math topics for advanced currently 5th, 6th and 7th-grade students. Led by David Thomas, local engineer and Mathcounts coach. This program will explore number theory, probability, logic, game theory and more! This program is FREE and open to students from any school or homeschool!

Special Events

Rainy Day Games:
Saturday, June 3rd at 3:00pm

Let’s turn off the computers and tvs and play games like Grandma and Grandpa used to play! Learn how to play simple vintage games suitable for indoor play, which encourage physical movement and mental stimulation. Best for ages 5 to 12. Class is free but limited to 14 participants. You must sign up to attend!


Summer Reading Kickoff Party:
Thursday, June 8th at 3:00pm
Kick off your summer by registering for the 2017 Summer Reading Program! Don’t break the chain, read all summer! There will be: door prizes, refreshments, games, building projects, a parade, and so much more! The Summer Reading Program is designed for ages 0-adult. Log your hours, complete the challenges, and participate in fun Summer Reading events all summer long.


Bilingual Story Time:
Saturday, June 10th at 10:00am
Join  local teacher and storyteller Faby Peck for a fun and educational story time held in English and Spanish!


Stevens Puppets – The Sleeping Beauty:
Monday, June 12th 11:00am and 3:00pm
Join us for a free, all-ages production of this classic children’s tale with beautiful, hand-painted marionettes! Patrons MUST have a ticket to attend shows. Tickets are FREE but quantity is limited, pick them up at the Kenai Community Library today.


Construction Zone: Building a Greener World:
Thursday, June 15th at 3pm
Join us at the Kenai Community Library  for a special presentation from the  Department of Parks and Recreation.  Learn about Kenai’s parks and all the fun things you can do  from skateboarding, to skiing, Gardening, and more! Children under 8 must be  accompanied by an adult.


Rhubarb Orange Jelly:
Saturday, June 17th at 1pm
Learn how to make this fun tangy jelly from Rhubarb and Oranges. This easy three ingredient recipe is perfect for first-time jelly makers and the results are fantastic! The class is FREE but individuals must pre-register to attend. Class limited to 8 participants.


American Girl Club:
Monday, June 19th at 4pm
Join us at the Kenai Community Library for our monthly American Girl Club!  We will be making a fun scrapbook!  Bring your doll (doesn’t have to be an American Girl) or use one of ours! The doll house will be out for everyone to play with. Meets at the same time and place as LEGO Club.


Construction Zone: Building a Safer World:
Thursday, June 22nd at 3pm
Join us at the Kenai Community Library as we go on a tour of the  fire station and learn about making our world a safer place for  everyone to enjoy. Meet some of our local firefighters and learn what to do in the event of an emergency. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.


Braided Bandana Bangle:
Friday, June 23rd at 3pm
Learn a simple braiding technique and go home with a patriotic bangle!  The class is free but size is limited to 12 participants, sign up at the front desk. Fun for the whole family! Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.


Construction Zone: Building a Magical World:
Thursday, June 29th at 3pm
Join us at the Kenai Community Library for a special event you wont want to miss.  Learn some of the history behind the world’s most famous magicians and practice a few tricks that you can do at home.  Children under 8 must be  accompanied by an adult.


Family Flick Movie Matinee:
Friday, June 30th at 3:00pm
Come join us for this 2016 film about magical beasts and the odd wizard that tries to protect them. When Newt Scamander’s suitcase is accidentally opened he must scour all of New York to recover his beasts before it is too late.  Popcorn and drinks will be provided.  This film is rated PG-13, children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Pathways of Poetry Unveiling Celebration:
Saturday, July 1st at 2pm
Join the City of Kenai in the unveiling of the NEW Pathways of Poetry. Awards will be given, light refreshments will be provided, and the poetry trail will be open to the public! The Celebration will be at Municipal Park near pavilion 3 (closest  to the bluff).
