Ongoing Weekly Programs

No registration is required.
Children under 8 must be accompanied by adult.

Mondays– 4:00pmLEGO Maker Mondays Do you like LEGOs? Why not join us to build LEGO creations based on new themes each week and inspired by children’s books!  Designed for children ages 6-12; children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Tuesdays – 10:30-11am – Wee Read – Children ages 0-3, with their caregivers, enjoy a program of songs, poetry, movement and a story.

Wednesdays – 10:30-11am – Preschool Storytime – Children ages 3-5, with their caregivers, enjoy a program of song, movement, poetry, early literacy skills and stories.

Summer Food Program for Kids:

Thursday, August 3, 10, 17 from 11:30-12:30
The Kenai Community Library is teaming up with the Food Bank of Alaska to offer a FREE lunch for all children 18 and under. All meals must be eaten on site and are designated for children ONLY. This wonderful opportunity begins June 1st and ends August 17th.

 

Raspberry Pi Pro Workshops:

July 31, August 1, August 2  at 3:00pm
Take part in this 3 day workshop full of awesome technology, games, and creativity! Learn how to use the library’s new Raspberry Pi technology, including Makey Makey and Scratch. No experience necessary! Sign up today! Limited space available.

 

Construction Zone: Building a Better World:

Join us at the Kenai Community Library  for this fun, educational summer reading program! Each week we will be exploring different ways we can build a better world. Children under 8 must be  accompanied by an adult.

 

Carol Markstrom:

Thursday, August 3rd at 5:00pm
Come join us to meet esteemed author and singer-songwriter Carol Markstrom! She is the Western Female Vocalist of the Year and has also published non-fiction works on North American Indian history.

 

Sonic Pi Workshop:

Friday, August 4th at 3:00pm
This class will get you started on your music coding journey as it introduces you to SONIC PI and helps you create your first sounds with the SONIC PI programming language.  Sign up today! Limited space available. Appropriate for ages 12-17.

 

Noon Time Tunes:

Monday, August 7th and Wednesday, August 10th from 12-1pm
Join us at the library for a musical treat you won’t soon forget. Brought to us by the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra. Listen to Tomaka Raften and her students play beautiful classical music on Monday and the Navy Winds: Woodwind Trio play on Wednesday.

 

Raspberry Pi Club:

Come Join us at the library to create games, inventions, learn how to program, make music with Sonic Pi, meet new friends, and more! Whether you want to hone your skills or are learning about Pi’s for the first time, the Raspberry Pi club is the perfect place for you!

 

Summer Reading Grand Finale:

Thursday, August 10th at 3:00pm
Join us for the 2017 Summer Reading Program GRAND FINALE, with special guests JUGGLE WHATEVER! Will be held On the Green Strip (By the softball fields off Main Street Loop). There will also be prize drawings, games, and refreshments!

 

Dragonfly Earrings:

Friday, August 11th at 4:00pm
Learn an easy beading technique and take home a pair of beautiful earrings!  This project is for ages 12 and up, class size is limited to 12 people.  FREE! Please pre-register at the front desk. Call Lilly at 283-4378 for questions.

 

Let’s Draw- Cats and Dogs:

Tuesday, August 15th at 4:00pm
Have fun drawing furry felines and cuddly canines in this interactive class. We will also be learning about taking photo references to use for your artwork. Fireweed Jelly Workshop:

Thursday, August 17th at 5:30pm
Come learn how to make delicious jelly out of the beautiful fireweed that blooms  on the peninsula! Class size is limited to 8 people,  and children must have an adult helper. Free but must pre-register at the front desk.

 

Escape- Nuclear Lockdown!

Friday, August 18th from 5-6:30pm
Join us for an exciting new after hours program for teens and tweens ages 10-14! We will be working together to stop a nuclear launch and save the world! SANDWICHES and DRINKS will be provided. Sign up at the front desk today!

 

Beginning Crochet:

Saturday, August 19th at 3:00pm
Learn how to make Amigurumi Stars at this beginning crochet class. Free, class size limited to 8 participants. Sign up at the front desk or call Lilly at 283-4378.

 

American Girl Club:

Monday, August 21st at 4:00pm
Join us at the Kenai Community Library for our monthly American Girl Club!  We will be introducing Little Brother! Bring your doll (doesn’t have to be an American Girl) or use one of ours! The doll house will be out for everyone to play with. Meets at the same time and place as LEGO Club.

 

Retro Video Game Bash:

Friday, August 25th at 3:30pm
We’ll be digging out some retro systems from the 90’s for a race & battle bonanza! There will be a variety of multiplayer games, trivia, art pages, and more! This is a FREE event, open to all ages. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

 

Alaska Wild Berry Identification Workshop:

Saturday, August 26th at 1:00pm
Learn about Alaska’s edible berries just in time for harvest. We’ll learn about berry identification, safe picking practices, and more! Example plants will be provided along with scrumptious recipes to try at home. This is a FREE program no registration required. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
