The Library provides the public with many of the latest information technologies, like high-speed internet public-access and modern computers installed with popular software. Computer Training at the library is free and offers classes such as basic computer use, internet browsing and e-mail. In an effort to provide relevant computer training, the library is conducting a survey to determine the computer training needs of its users. Brief questionnaires are available throughout the library.

A Fly Tying Workshop will be held from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, March 15th in the Library Conference Room. Professional Trout Hunter, Paul Tornow, will demonstrate and teach participants how to make several fishing flies. Advance registration is required. Participation is limited to ten and there is a $5.00 materials fee for the workshop.


The Totem Tracers Genealogical Society will offer Ancestor Research help from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Library Conference Room Saturday, March 8th. The monthly meeting featuring a presentation by Scott Bryner about Salem Witch Genealogy will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 12th.


The Kenai Community Book Club will meet March 25th in the Library Conference Room at 6:30 p.m., to discuss The Firecracker Boys by Dan O’Neill.


One-hundred and seventy-four items have been purchased during the past year as a result of patrons’ recommendations. Item request forms are available at the front desk and a DVD request list is available in that area as well. The library considers all recommendations, but is limited by budgetary constraints and item availability. One example is the unavailability of new “Liberty’s Kids”  DVDs for purchase.


Test PreparationDo you need to prepare for a test or exam? Alaska’s Digital Pipeline provides completely interactive online practice tests designed to help students and adult learners succeed on academic or licensing tests; prepare for the GED; civil service and military entrance exams; licensing tests for law enforcement, real estate, the postal service, and many other fields; plus college and graduate school admissions exams. Online eBooks are also available within the Testing & Education Reference Center site.  Click on Alaska Digital Pipeline link on library website at www.kenailibrary.org, select Education from Categories, select Testing and Education Reference Center, and then click on Test Preparation.


The Central Peninsula Writers Group hosts the 11th Annual “Writers’ Present” Saturday, March 15th at 4:00 pm at the Triumvirate Theatre in Soldotna. The Writers Group’s regular meetings will be held at 6:30 pm in the Library Conference Room Thursday, March 6th and Thursday, March 20th.


Did you know? The Library has National Geographic bound from 1948 to the present? Also available individually are issues from 1940-1947 and a few earlier issues. Donations of National Geographic dated before World War II would be most welcome to help complete our collection. A National Geographic Index is available online at www.ngslis.org.

Children's Corner . . . . . . . . . . . . Mary White
j0356429The Tween Book Club, for children ages 9 to 12, meets March 12th at 4:00 pm to discuss The Ravenmaster’s Secret by Elvira Woodruff. Any child interested in reading this book should stop by the library to pick up a copy; the library has ten copies to give to the first ten readers. The club’s selection for April will be distributed at the March book club meeting, and the last meeting until fall will be held May 14th.

Silly Song & Lyrics Contest The public is invited to audition for the Kenai Community Library's 1st annual Silly Song & Lyrics Contest to be held April 7th at 6 p.m. in the Library. Auditions for interested participants will be held Sunday, April 6th at 2 p.m. in the Library Conference Room. Lyrics must be original and appropriate for a family audience. Songs are not to exceed 3 minutes in length. The winning song will be selected by audience acclaim.
