Kenai Community Library Collection Development Policy
  • Books: Adult fiction and nonfiction, juvenile, children, and easy reader collections
  • New Books: Books purchased by the Library during the last six months
  • Large Print: Fiction and nonfiction books and Reader's Digest Magazine
  • Alaskan Collection: Fiction and nonfiction, government documents, videos and audiotapes
  • Reference: Encyclopedias,almanacs, atlases, dictionaries, Alaskana, auto repair manuals,databases
  • Children Services: Story times, Tween Book Club, Summer Reading
  • Audio books: Fiction and non-fiction books on tapes or CDs, foreign language tapes & CDs
  • Downloadable Audio Books: Fiction and non-fiction through Listen Alaska
  • Interlibrary Loans: Resources requested from other libraries
  • Periodicals: Over 100 subscriptions to magazines & newspapers
  • Internet Access: Free internet terminals and wireless connection (for your own laptop)
  • Government Documents: Materials published by the State of Alaska and local governments
  • Genealogy: Reference books and periodicals. Classes offered frequently. Totem Tracers, a genealogy interest group, meet on the last Thursday of each month; Ancestor Research held on second Saturday of each month.
  • Music collection : CDs and audio cassettes
  • DVDs and Video Cassettes: Feature films, documentaries, PBS educational series, children's films and cartoons
  • Typewriter & Word Processing computers
  • Book Club: Book discussion group meets on the last Tuesday of each month in the Library Conference room at 6:30 p.m..
  • Writer's Group: Writing support group meets the first and third Thursday of each month in the Library Conference room at 6:30 pm.

Russian Story Time: Monday Suspended until Fall
Preschool Story Time: Suspended until Fall

Wee Read: Wednesday 11:00-11:30 am
Tween Book Club: Suspended until Fall
After School Read: Suspended until Fall

 

 


Databases

  1. Digital Pipeline : subscriptions to interactive reference source
    databases, funded by the Alaska State Legislature specifically for Alaskan residents
  2. SLED-Statewide Library Electronic Doorway: Alaskas Virtual Library and Digital Archives
  3. Anchorage Daily News: complete, full-text online version going back to 1986 (at the Library or call for password)
  4. Grant Station: a database for grant seekers, funded by the Denali Commission and available only inside the Library building
